100 Things Every Black Girl Should Know
‘100 Things Every Black Girl Should Know’ was my first non-musical labor of the deepest and purest love. It was born out of my desire to warn my younger-self about obstacles ahead, but it later shaped into this conversation starter between mother and daughter, peer to peer and teacher and student.
It’s almost been a year since the initial release, but I am still contacted often about the impact that it is making on black and brown girls, and I am so very proud of it. Imagine my surprise when I learned that my first book actually won a coveted ‘In the Margin’s Award.’ This award is given to only ten authors per year, chosen by a team of librarians across the US who are committed to providing reading material to at-risk youth. After a hectic year, I have finally carved out time to sit down and start writing my next books, yes, BOOKS, plural!
But until then, if you haven’t already, please feel free to check out 100 Things Every Black Girl Should Know and if you have, please sound off below! I would love to know your thoughts.
